The Spontaneity Shop

Q&A: SONYA VINE

How long have you worked with The Spontaneity Shop?
2 years
Why do you love improvising?
Because when it's good, it feels a bit like flying. Similarly when it's bad, it feels a bit like crashing to the ground and splintering into tiny pieces and waking up the next morning covered in bruises. But when it's good.... yes flying is a good thing.
What's your favourite improv memory?
Being on stage on my own and doing a two person scene where I played both characters. I would happily have gone on all night and half way into the next day if I could.
You're also an actor. Any favourite acting memories?
I was in a farce, 'Don't Dress for Dinner', in Germany a few years ago - I had a favourite line which I looked forward to every night as it always got a huge laugh - the line was, "She's got the flu." See how funny that is.
You mainly improvise with another group. Who are they and how did they start?
They are, we are, The Undersigned. They are, we are, I am Sonya Vine, they are Catherine Semark, Abigail Hanson, Natalie Richer, Nathalie Jacoby.
You're also a well-known artist. What's that like?
Well, it's a bit like flying.....
Where can we see your work?

What is your maxim for life?
Try and earn a living from being creative. If that doesn't work, take up flying lessons.
How many degrees of separation are you from Kevin Bacon?
One - I am married to him. (This is a lie)
Anything else we should know about you?
I get upset about the misuse of apostrophes in life. And I love lindy hop dancing.
Would you rather accept an Oscar or wield a light saber?
Oscar is almost an anagram of saber, so I think that's a trick question.
